愛媛県について
Ehime is a prefecture placed in the northwest part of the Shikoku region and the climate is mild.
愛媛県は四国の北西部に位置する県で、気候は温暖です。
方角を表す表現として、東西南北は皆さんご存じだと思いますが、北西、南東といった方角の表現は知っていますか？実は方角の単語を並べるだけで意外に単純です。
（例）北西：northwest 南東：southeast
長期的な気象を表す「気候」はclimate、その日限りの気象を表す「天気」はweatherです。
Ehime faces the Seto Inland Sea in the north and the Uwa Sea in the west rich in nature.
愛媛県は北は瀬戸内海、西は宇和海に面しており、自然豊かです。
先程も少し触れましたが、面する、～向きのは、faceを使用します。名詞では顔という意味で有名ですが、動詞では全く違う意味になります。
Rich in ~は～が豊富なというイディオムです。
The population is 1.35 million ranking 28th in Japan.
人口は135万人で日本で28位です
million=100万なので、135万＝1.35millionになります。
〇位と順位を示す際は、序数を使うので28thのように数字の後にthをつけます。
愛媛県の観光スポット①松山城
Matsuyama Castle is located in Mt. Shiroyama at an altitude of 132m in the center of Matsuyama City.
You can see 21 important cultural properties.
松山城は、松山市の中心部である標高132mの城山にあります。21もの重要文化財を見ることができます。
標高はaltitude of~/elevation of~で表します。
Since it located in the upland, the scenery is so beautiful, and the night view is also famous.
高台にあるので景色はとてもきれいで、夜景も有名です。
景色を表す表現はたくさんありますが、ビルや展望台からの景色はview、特定の場所からの自然の景色はscenery、丘や森などの一目で見渡せる場所の景色はlandscapeを使います。
The castle is also known for its depiction in “Sakanoue no kumo” written by Shiba Ryotaro as a symbol of Matsuyama being a city of literature.
司馬遼太郎が書いた『坂の上の雲』で文学都市松山市のシンボルとして描かれており、親しまれています。
絵を描くのがはdrow、描写するのはdepictやdiscribeが使われます。
愛媛県の観光スポット②石鎚山
Mt. Ishizuchi is a mountain with an altitude of 1,982 m and is said to be the highest mountain in western Japan. It is one of the top 100 famous mountains in Japan and the 100 landscapes of Japan.
石鎚山は、標高1,982 mの山で西日本最高峰の山とも言われています。日本百名山、日本百景の1つです。
前述の表現であるaltitudeは今回も使える表現でした。
「～と言われている」はbe said to be ~、「～の1つです」はone of the~と表現します。
We can climb this mountain from July to October, and on sunny days, you can see not only the Seto Inland Sea but also the mountains of the Chugoku and Kyushu regions.
登山できるのは7月から10月で、天候の良い日には、瀬戸内海はもちろん、中国地方・九州地方の山々まで遠望することができます。
Not only A but also BはAだけでなくBもというイディオムです。
As one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan, you can enjoy the scenery of four seasons with beautiful nature such as forests rich in variety.
日本百名山のひとつでもあり、変化に富んだ森林などの自然が美しく、四季折々の風景を楽しむことができます。
Such as~は ～のようなという意味のイディオムです。
愛媛県の観光スポット③道後温泉
Dogo Onsen is the only Michelin Guide 3-star site in Shikoku, and the name of Dogo Onsen is widely known in the world. It is a famous hot spring that has a history of 3,000 years and appears in the Nihon Shoki.
道後温泉は、四国唯一のミシュランガイド3つ星施設で、世界でも道後温泉の名は広く知られています。
3000年の歴史があり、日本書紀にも登場する古くからの名湯です。
広く知られているは、widely knownやwell knownが使われます。
In addition to the hot springs, you can enjoy shopping at “Hikara-dori”, a shopping street, with as much as 60 shops ranging from souvenir shops, cafes, and restaurants. The street is connected to Dogo Onsen Station with a retro appearance.
温泉だけでなく、レトロな外観の道後温泉駅から広がる商店街「ハイカラ通り」では土産物店やカフェ、レストランなど約60軒の店が立ち並び観光も楽しむことができます。
Spread from~は～から広がるという意味です。火事などの際にも使うことがあります

Another highlight is the “Botchan Train” modeled after Natsume Soseki’s masterpiece literature “Botchan”, which connects Matsuyama City Station and Dogo Onsen Station in about 20 minutes.
松山市駅前と道後温泉駅を約20分で結ぶ、夏目漱石の名作「坊ちゃん」をモデルにした「坊っちゃん列車」も見どころです。
～をモデルにするは、model after~、~after a modelを使います。
Highlightは日本語でもスポーツ中継でも名シーンのハイライトとなどで使われていますのでなじみがありますね。英語では見所、最重要点という意味で使われたり、蛍光ペンで引いた線をハイライトとも言います。ちなみに、蛍光ペンはhighliterと言います。
On the promenade, which is called “sora no sanpodo”, you can overlook the area around Dogo Onsen while soaking in the footbath. This is the perfect photo spot to take a picture of the entire Dogo Onsen Main Building. At night, the foot lamps will light up, creating a romantic promenade.
空の散歩道と言われる遊歩道では、足湯に浸かりながら道後温泉周辺を一望することができます。道後温泉本館全体を写真に収めるには、ここからが絶好の撮影スポットです。夜間にはフットランプが点灯し、ロマンティックな遊歩道になります。
一望する、見渡すはoverlookを使います。きれいな景色を見渡す時に使う動詞です。
（例）We can overlook the sea from here.
また、見落とす、大目に見るという意味でもoverlookが使われることがあります。
（例）overlook a mistake.
愛媛県の名産品①いよかん
Ehime Prefecture, where a wide variety of citrus fruits are cultivated, is the largest producer of citrus fruits in Japan. Among them, Iyokan is a special product of Ehime prefecture. It is delicious to eat as it is, and it is also enjoyed as sweets and juices.
多種多様なかんきつが栽培されている愛媛県は、かんきつの生産量日本一です。その中でもいよかんは愛媛県の特産品です。そのまま食べてもおいしく、スイーツやジュースにしてもおいしいです。
Cultivateは栽培する、special productは特産品、という意味です。「そのまま」はいろいろな表現がありますが、as it isで表現ができます。
愛媛県の名産品②鯛料理
Ehime prefecture produces the highest volume of sea bream in Japan, as it is designated as the prefecture fish. Local cuisine using fresh sea bream such as tai meshi, tai somen noodles, and horakuyaki is a specialty. The season for sea bream is spring, so if you want to eat delicious sea bream, we recommend spring as it is the season the fish store nutrition for spawning in May.
愛媛県は鯛が県の魚に指定されており、生産量も日本一です。鯛めし、鯛そうめん、法楽焼きなどの新鮮な鯛を使った郷土料理が名物となっています。鯛の旬は春なのでおいしい鯛を食べたいなら、5月の産卵にむけて栄養を蓄える春がおすすめです。
～に指定されるは、designate as~です。料理はdishも使えますが、もっとしっかりした敷居の高い料理も含める場合はcuisineを使います。
Spawnは魚やは虫類は主に卵を産むという意味合いで使います。人の出産に使うのは軽蔑した意味になるので使ってはいけません。子供を産む場合はto bear a child, bring forth a childを使います。
